5K Fun Run/Walk at UH Promotes Healthy Choices, Benefits Summer BOUNCE Camp

A family that exercises together stays healthy together.  The University of Houston College of Education offers a healthy and fun activity for families that also benefits a summer camp to promote healthy choices.  BOUNCE5K

The annual 5K Fun Run/Walk to benefit the UH BOUNCE program is planned for 9 a.m., Saturday, April 27 at Lynn Eusan Park on the campus of the University of Houston. The event is open to people of all ages.

BOUNCE is Behavior Opportunities Uniting Nutrition, Counseling and Education.  The award-winning summer program takes standard nutrition and physical activity intervention to the next level by fostering the mother-child partnership, heeding the cultural and gender specific behaviors that shape perceptions about food, exercise, and body image, while promoting a fun and healthy lifestyle.  All activities are facilitated by nutritionists and dieticians, certified fitness experts and psychological counselors.

“Our program began in 2005 and has grown substantially each year,” said Norma Olvera, professor and director of the BOUNCE program, “Donations on the day of the Fun Run/Walk will support our health programs, which have a lasting impact on families and their health.”

Early registration is recommended at http://bounce.uh.edu/  or on event day at 7 a.m. For more information on the      5K Fun Run/Walk or the summer program, contact BOUNCE at 832-842-5921 or bouncelite@yahoo.com.

“We are anticipating many families, friends and individuals to join us for a walk in the park that will lead to healthier living,” Olvera said.
